Project Description
The area known as the Building Product Site (BPS) in Wabamun, located South of 51st Avenue and West of Prospect Drive, was used for industrial activities many years ago, before the County acquired the land. Testing has identified several small areas within the site where the soil is contaminated. However, the testing has not indicated any negative impacts from the contamination including any impacts to the lake.
As a precautionary measure, the County will remove the identified contaminated soils and dispose offsite. On the east side of the site, old concrete pads and the remains of former buildings are still present. These structures are deteriorating and are unsafe. As part of this project, the buildings and concrete slabs will be demolished to improve safety. The County is working in conjunction with an Environmental consultant and contractor to complete these scopes of work.
Scope of Work:
Remove and safely dispose of all identified contaminated soil at an approved off-site facility.
Complete follow-up environmental testing to confirm removal of identified contaminates.
Demolish all remaining buildings, slabs and concrete structures on East side of site.
Concrete rubble will be stockpiled on West side of the site on existing concrete slabs.
Rough grade the east portion of the site following remediation and demolition to improve site safety and conditions.
Remove all garbage from the site.
There is no in-water activity as part of this project.
Potential Impact to Residents:
There are no anticipated impacts to residents. Expect to see workers and trucks going to and from the site to load/unload equipment and materials. There are no expected Traffic Closures as a result of this project.
Schedule:
Estimated start date: January 26, 2026
Estimated completion date: March 2026
Please note that this schedule may change without notice.
